4) Centennial Block
Built by the National Bank of Bellows Falls in 1875 when the nation was celebrating the 100th anniversary of the American Revolution, the ornate Centennial Block is a good example of the brick, urban commercial block of its period. Energized then economically by its growing railroad and manufacturing industries, the village shared in the national business boom that produced many such downtown buildings. Its style is High Victorian Italianate. Note the roof pinnacles and the center gable parapet with raised stone inscription, the roof cornice with decorative and corbelled brickwork, and stone window sills and shouldered window lintels in the upper floors.
